Nutritional status and dietary intake of patients with esophageal cancer at Vietnam national cancer hospitap in 2021

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the nutritional status and describe dietary intake of esophageal cancer patients carried out at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital in 2021. The cross-sectional study was conducted among 82 esophagus cancer patients. Newly diagnosed with esophageal cancer and have not received any treatment intervention were recruited for this study. The results showed that 73.2% were malnourished or at risk of malnutrition according to the PG-SGA classification, 37.7% of the patients were malnourished according to BMI,. The study did not find a statistically significant relationship between nutritional status and factors such as age, disease stage, cancer location. The patient's average dietary intake was 1320 kcal and 26.8% got the recommended energy. Esophageal cancer patients have a high prevalence of malnutrition, the dietary intake of the patient has a high rate of not get the recommended dietary allowance. Therefore, it is necessary to have timely interventions to improve the nutritional status of patients.
