Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of cirrhotic outpatients managed at Dong Da General Hospital in 2021. Body weight and height of 62 participants were measured and subjects were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Nutritional status was assessed by body mass index (BMI), subjective global assessment (SGA) and serum albumin concentration. According to BMI, the prevalence of overweight was 16.1%, there were no obese patients and the prevalence of underweight was 9.7%. According to SGA, the prevalence of moderately malnourished was 29.1%, no one was at risk of severely malnourished. According to serum albumin concentration, the prevalence of malnutrition was 6.5%. The prevalence of malnutrition in patients with cirrhosis is relatively high according to SGA, and patients with cirrhosis should be evaluated for nutritional risk using the SGA tool and nutrition counselling is required at each visit.
