Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the nutritional status and related factors of gout patients at Saint Paul General Hospital. This was a descriptive study using a cross-sectional design; we studied 73 subjects over 18 years old diagnosed with gout according to ACR/EULAR 2015 criteria (American Society of Rheumatology and European Rheumatology Federation), from December 2020 to March 2021. We found 5.5% of the subjects has chronic energy deficiency (BMI - body mass index < 18.5) and 53.4% of patients were overweight/obese patients (BMI ≥ 23). Based on SGA, 15.0% of patients are at risk of mild to moderate malnutrition (SGA-B), in which inpatients accounted for a higher proportion than outpatients (31.6% vs. 9.3%). Subjects with chronic noncommunicable diseases contributed a higher risk of overweight/obesity (OR = 7.4). Patients with more than 10 gout attacks/year had a greater risk of SGA malnutrition (OR = 5.6).
