Abstract

The aim of our study was to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adolescents with Hemophilia using the Vietnamese version of the PedsQL™ 4.0 questionnaire. This study was conducted on 105 adolescents (10 - 17 years old) with Hemophilia at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, compared with 105 healthy, age-matched adolescents randomly selected from schools. The overall mean HRQoL scores in the Hemophilia group were 76.70 ± 13.53 (10 - 12 years old) and 77.46 ± 12.80 (13 - 17 years old), which were significantly lower than the healthy group (88.59 ± 4.49 and 88.85 ± 6.05, respectively; p < 0.001). The HRQoL of the affected adolescents was notably reduced in the physical and school functioning domains. Disease severity and complications were identified as negative influencing factors on HRQoL. Therefore, regular HRQoL assessment plays a vital role in shaping effective treatment strategies for adolescents with Hemophilia, contributing to a reduction of bleeding frequency and related complications, and ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
