Sexual Dysfunction in Female Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this study was to assess sexual function and identify associated factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) females. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 157 females including 78 patients with T2DM under 50 years old and 79 non-diabetic controls matched for demographic characteristics. Sexual function was evaluated using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), while psychological status was assessed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The results showed that the prevalence of sexual dysfunction was significantly higher in the diabetic group (67.9%) than in controls (48.1%, p = 0.012). The mean FSFI score among women with diabetes (23.4 ± 4.7) was lower than the control group (26.1 ± 3.3), p = 0.001). There was no No significant association noted between sexual function and clinical or biochemical parameters of diabetes. However, anxiety, depression and sexual activity frequency were significantly correlated with sexual dysfunction.
