Abstract

This scoping review summarized the incidence of thyroid cancer around the world and in Vietnam. A total of 25 papers and reports worldwide and in Vietnam were analyzed in this review. The included papers showed a trend of a significant increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer across countries. However, in the second half of the 2009 - 2019 period some countries, such as South Korea and the United States, witnessed a decrease in incidence. New cases of thyroid cancer occurred at a higher rate in women than men, and the incidence among women  doubled, from 4.7/100,000 to 10.2/100,000 in 2018. High-income countries reported higher incidence rates than low-and-middle-income countries. Cancer registrations play an important role in reporting thyroid cancer incidence statistics.
