Current situation and some factors affecting the inpatient medical records in Nghe An Huu Nghi General Hospital in 2019

Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the quality of medical records and identify factors associated with incomplete records at Nghe An General Huu Nghi Hospital in 2019. In total, 400 inpatient medical records of 5 internal medicine faculties were reviewed and 9 in-depth interviews were conducted the hospital’s managers and health workers. The results showed that the proportion of good medical records was 79.8%, and 30% of items in the records had an under 85% accuracy. There was a statistically significant association between the probability of having good medical records and the department of internal medicine (p < 0.05). Lack of training, supervision and inspection, lack of regulation on rewards and consequences in record-keeping compliance, culture of blame were factors that negatively affect the quality of records. This study was able to identified the areas of improvement for hospital regarding the quality of their medical records.
