Abstract

This study aimed to describe nursing students’ perceptions of professional values and to identify related factors among third- and fourth-year nursing students at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. A cross-sectional descriptive design was conducted with 271 students using the Nurse Professional Values Scale–3 (NPVS-3). The results showed that nursing students’ perceptions of professional values were at a moderate to high level; among the three domains, the caring domain scored the highest, whereas the professionalism domain scored lowest. Academic performance and confidence in clinical skills were significantly associated with perceptions of professional values. Students with good to excellent academic achievement and those who were confident in their clinical skills reported higher levels of perceived professional values. These findings highlight the important roles of academic competence and clinical practice experience in the development of nursing students’ professional values. Accordingly, the study suggests that nursing education institutions should focus on improving the quality of academic training and strengthening support for clinical practice in order to enhance students’ confidence in their skills and promote the development of professional values.
