Abstract

This is a cross-sectional study aimed to describe the clinical features of delirium in elderly inpatients at The National Geriatric Hospital. 138 patients (i) over 60 years old treated in emergency and intensive care units (ii) had complete information on administration, including: medical history, clinical examination, and para clinical parameters and (iii) a consent agreement was signed by patients or their families to participate in the study. The results showed that the rate of delirium is more common in the age range of 60 - 69 with 75.0%. The percentage of women is higher than that of men (52.9% and 47.1%). The rate of decrease in ability to focus attention in men was 52.1% higher than in women 47.9% (p = 0.04). The proportion of men with myocardial infarction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer and delirium was much higher than that of women (p < 0.05). Initial studies show typical features in elderly patients with delirium.
