Initial assessment of drug adherence using the MARS-5 scale and related factors in patients with cerebral hemorrhage after discharge at Can Tho Central General Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 103 patients with cerebral hemorrhage at Can Tho Central General Hospital from October 2024 to October 2025 to initially assess drug adherence using the MARS-5 scale and related factors. The results showed that the mean MARS-5 score was 21.3 ± 3.6; the adherence rate was 77.7% (full adherence: 36.0%, partial adherence: 41.7%), while the non-adherence rate was 22.3%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed two factors associated with non-adherence: living alone (OR = 16,70; 95% CI: 4.75 - 58.72; p < 0.001) and current smoking (OR = 4.47; 95% CI: 1.27 - 15.69; p = 0.020). Given the cross-sectional design and limited sample size, these findings should be confirmed by further studies with stronger study designs. The MARS-5 scale may be useful for early detection of non-adherence behaviors, thereby suggesting appropriate interventions to improve treatment effectiveness and prevent recurrence in patients with cerebral hemorrhage after discharge.
