Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 102 medical records of adolescents who underwent abortion at the On-Demand Treatment Department of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from January 2020 to December 2023. The mean age of participants was 16.74 ± 2.12 years old, where the 17 – 19 age group represented 59.8%. Most adolescents undergoing abortion were students (79.4%), mainly with a lower secondary education level (45.1%), and the majority resided in rural areas (71.6%). Overall, 76.5% underwent medical abortion using a combined regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol. The overall termination rate was 100%, with 89.2% completing abortion within 24 hours after the first dose of misoprostol. The median time to fetal expulsion was approximately 13 hours (range: 1 – 60 hours), and was significantly lengthier in the 19 – 22 weeks group compared to the 13 – 18 weeks group (p < 0.05). 66.7% required intrauterine intervention after abortion.
