Abstract

Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health disorders and are associated with impaired social functioning and reduced quality of life. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study on 214 patients diagnosed with anxiety disorders to evaluate quality of life and the association between quality of life and anxiety severity level; patients were diagnosed and treated at the outpatient clinic of Hanoi Medical University Hospital from July 2025 to December 2025. Data were collected using a structured research questionnaire including the SF-36 quality of life scale and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. The results showed that the mean age of participants was 36.7 ± 12.2 years old, with the majority being female, married, and living with their families. Quality of life was negatively associated with anxiety levels according to the equation: y = 108 – 1.11x. As anxiety severity increased, quality of life decreased, particularly when anxiety progressed from mild–moderate to severe levels, with statistical significance (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of early detection and effective treatment of anxiety symptoms in order to improve patients’ quality of life.
