Helicobacter pylori infection and associated factors among patients with gastroduodenal ulcer disease at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
A cross-sectional study using convenience sampling was conducted among 106 patients with gastroduodenal ulcer disease at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital from January 1 to March 31, 2024. The study aimed to describe the current status and identify factors associated with Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection in this population. Data were collected on sociodemographic characteristics, dietary habits, lifestyle, hygiene practices, medication use, and medical history. Descriptive statistics with quantitative and qualitative variables, the X2 test or Fisher’s exact test were used to identify associated factors. The results indicated that the prevalence of HP infection was 29.25%. A statistically significant associated factor was a history of gastroduodenal disease (OR = 6.99; 95% CI: 2.38 – 32.04; p < 0.0001). Targeted screening for HP infection should be strengthened, particularly among individuals with a history of gastroduodenal disease. Future studies should employ longitudinal designs to assess the risk of reinfection and the role of other factors such as antibiotic resistance, health behaviors, and living conditions.
