Abstract

A prospective observational study was conducted on 32 patients with hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis at Trung Vuong Hospital to describe the serial changes in serum triglyceride clearance and to examine the preliminary association between this index and in-hospital complications. Triglyceride clearance increased progressively from 33.8 ± 13.2% at 24 hours to 52.4 ± 16.7% at 48 hours and 66.3 ± 18.2% at 72 hours. 62.5% of patients were in the rapid-clearance group at 48 hours. Triglyceride clearance at 48 and 72 hours was inversely correlated with length of hospital stay, with correlation coefficients of -0.46 and -0.53, respectively. In exploratory analysis, triglyceride clearance showed preliminary discriminative ability for pancreatic complications with an AUC of 0.89 (95% CI: 0.69 – 1.00) at both time points. The corresponding AUCs for extrapancreatic complications were 0.90 (95% CI: 0.79 – 1.00) and 0.91 (95% CI: 0.81 – 1.00), respectively. These preliminary findings suggest that triglyceride clearance may serve as a useful dynamic index for early in-hospital monitoring.
