Co-expression of myeloid lineage immunophenotypic markers and peripheral hematological parameters in pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Main Article Content
Abstract
Myeloid antigen expression is an aberrant immunophenotypic feature in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. An analysis of 265 pediatric patients with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) showed that 56/265 cases (21.1%) co-expressed at least one myeloid antigen. The most common immunophenotypic pattern was CD13−CD33+CD117− (67.9%), with CD33 being the most strongly expressed marker (44.6% showed strong positivity). Severe anemia occured in 30.2% of patients. The white blood cell count was markedly elevated, with a median of 116.71 G/L. Compared with patients without myeloid antigen expression, the My+T-ALL group had a higher platelet count (108 G/L vs. 49 G/L, p < 0.0001) and a lower white blood cell count (35.7 G/L vs. 131.7 G/L, p < 0.0001). In conclusion, pediatric T-ALL shows a substantial rate of myeloid antigen co-expression and distinct peripheral hematologic characteristics, with lower white blood cell counts and higher platelet counts in patients with myeloid antigen expression.
