Abstract

Young age is an independent prognostic factor of breast cancer. This retrospective study assessed the overall survival (OS) rate by reviewing longitudinal follow-up records of 92 women under 35 years who had breast cancer and had definitive treatment from K hospital between January, 2008 and August, 2011. Five, seven and ten-year OS rate were 79.5%, 66.2 % and 64.6%, respectively. There were 34 patients (37%) who had recurrence of cancer. Five, seven and ten-year event-free survival (EFS) rate were 66.0%, 63.7% and 60.5%, respectively. Stage and lymph node metastasis were significantly associated with OS and EFS. However, there were no significant differences of EFS and OS between groups with different ER/PR. Breast cancer in young women has unfavorable EFS and OS rates.
