Anticoagulant effect of Tran chau nguu hoang hoan in experimental animals

Abstract

 This study assessed the anticoagulant effect of Tran chau nguu hoang hoan (TCNHH) in rats with
blood clots induced by lipopolysaccharide. The rats were divided into 5 groups of 10 each: 3 control
groups and two treatment groups that were administered orally with TCNHH (0.12 and 0.36 pill/kg per
day). After 7 days, besides the group receiving distilled water and intravenous saline, the other 4 groups
were injected with lipopolysaccharide at 3 mg/kg via the tail vein. Blood was withdrawn 4 hours after
lipopolysaccharide injection. Platelet count, plasma fibrinogen, prothrombin time (PT), and activated
partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) were measured. Rats that received pretreatment with TCNHH
had increased platelet count and fibrinogen concentration. TCNHH also prolonged PT and aPTT.
TCNHH showed some anticoagulant effect in rats with blood clots indueced by lipopolysaccharide.
