Abstract

This study compared the accuracy of measurements of breast volume obtained from anatomical
measurements and mammography. A total of 240 women treated at K Hospital, aged 18 to 78 years
old, were recruited to participate in the study. These women had their breast sizes measured using
a ruler based on anatomical landmarks, and breast volumes were calculated based on dimensions
measured on mammography. The average volume of all breast specimens was 372.6 ± 151.2ml. The
average volume measured by anatomical and mammographic methods are 395.3 ± 180.7ml and 397.1
± 170.3ml, respectively. The mammographic method has a higher accuracy (r = 0.905) than anatomical
measurement (r = 0.875), although both anatomical measurement and mammography show high
accuracy. These two methods are simple and can be applied routinely in breast surgery in Vietnam.
