Comparison of postoperative pain relief between bilateral lumbar erector spinae plane block and pca morphine in patients with lumbar spine surgery
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this study to compare the postoperative pain relief effect of bilateral lumbar erector spinal plane block versus PCA morphine in lumbar spine surgery patients. 60 patients undergoing selective lumbar spinal surgery were divided into 2 groups: 30 patients in bilateral lumbar erector spinal plane block group (ESP group) and 30 patients in PCA morphine group at the Department of Anesthesia Critical Care & Pain Medicine – Hanoi Medical University Hospital from Sept 2019 to Sept 2020. The mean VAS score at rest and on exertion, the quantity of morphine consumed after surgery and the side effect of the ESP group were significantly lower than in the PCA group (16.4 ± 6.6 vs 25.9 ± 5.9 mg, p < 0.05). Our study proves that the bilateral lumbar erector spinal plane block was very effective in postoperative pain relief for lumbar spine surgeries.
