3. Clinical features of acute polymorphic psychotic disorder without symptoms of schizophrenia

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical features of acute polymorphic psychotic disorder without symptoms of schizophrenia. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study, including 43 patients diagnosed with acute polymorphic psychotic disorder without symptoms of schizophrenia (F23.0) according to ICD 10 diagnostic criteria; patients were treated at the Institute of Mental Health - Bach Mai Hospital from 2019 to 2020. Results: The most common age groups were 25 - 34 years old (32.6%) and 35 - 44 years old (30.2%). The mean age was 34.19 ± 10.1. This disorder was more common in women than men (53.5% versus 46.5%). 36.2% of patients had comorbid stress. Work-related stress was the most frequent at 37.4%. Up to 95.3% of patients had paranoid symptoms, 90.2% had delusions of being harmed, followed by delusions of being monitored at 60.9%. 65.1% of patients had hallucinations. Most patients had auditory hallucinations (96.4%). There were 3 cases of visual hallucinations (6.9%). Tactile hallucinations, taste hallucinations, and olfactory hallucinations had not been observed in these patients.
