26. Abscess of urachal cyst by S.aureus in children: A case report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Urachal remnant diseases are a relatively uncommon malformations in children and may progress to malignancy in adulthood. Among them, umbilical cord cyst is the most common type. The symptoms of urachal cyst infection are often nonspecific, can be similar to acute appendicitis or other abdominal conditions, leading to poor diagnosis and complications such as sepsis, peritonitis due to rupture of urachal cyst into the abdomen. We report a case of a 6 years old girl presenting with high fever accompanied by a hot, red, swollen abscess in the umbilicus. The results of ultrasound and computed tomography showed that the soft part of the abdominal wall had a mass suspected of a cystic abscess in the umbilicus; the abscess's pus culture showed Staphylococcus aureus infection. The patient’s condition resolved with prescription of antibiotics and urachal cystectomy.
