Abstract

Soft tissue defects of the hand are very common and caused by many different reasons. The free thin anterolateral thigh perforator flap used for hand reconstruction has many advantages. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of free thin anterolateral thigh perforator (ALTP) flap reconstruction for soft tissue defects of the hand. 38 ALTP flaps have been raised in 36 patients from 18 to 51 years old. The main cause is ịnjury (27 cases). These patients underwent surgery at the Department of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Saint Paul hospital (Ha Noi, Viet Nam), between March 2009 to August 2021. Results: 31flaps had complete survival, 3flaps with epidermal necrosis of the flap edge and the distal flap, 4 flaps with partial necrosis. The average dimension of these ALTP flaps was 16.24 ± 6.06 × 8.71 ± 2.78cm, the average thickness was 4.22 ± 1.71mm. The goals of hand reconstruction are both functional and aesthetic. We conclude that free thin Anterolateral thigh perforator flap is a reliable material for hands reconstruction.
