24. Prevalence of diarrhea in children and associated factors in Minh Khai commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi in 2015

Abstract
Diarrhea prevention program has been implemented for many years in Vietnam; however, diarrhea is still quite common in the community for children under 5 years old, in particular of infants from 6 to 24 months old. The study was conducted on 216 children 6 - 24 months old with diarrhea and their mothers in the 2 weeks before the survey. The results showed that the rate of diarrhea in children was 22.2%. Factors associated with an increased risk of diarrhea in children are children in the age group of 6 - 12 months, children were weaned from breastfeeding before 18 months old, living in families with > 2 children, mother's education level, source of drinking water, mothers have poor knowledge and practice on preventing and taking care of children with diarrhea.
