Coping strategies for academic stress among students at hanoi medical university in the academic year 2018-2019

Abstract

This study  aimed to describe coping strategies for the academic stress employed by medical students at Hanoi Medical University in the academic year 2018-2019. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 1422 students who were in their first or final year at Hanoi Medical University. The most common coping strategy was the “problem approach strategy” which was used by  between 70.3% to 89.4% of the first-year students and between 58.2% to 77.3% of the final-year students The “strategy to avoid problems” was used by between25.7% to 77.6% of the first-year students and between 39.3% to 69.1% of the final year students. The university should establish a counseling department to help students, especially final year students,  in finding a suitable strategy for coping with academic stress.
