MICA (Major histocompatibility complex class I - related gene A) thuộc họ MHC lớp I, là một kháng nguyên được bộc lộ trên bề mặt tế bào khối u hoặc nhiễm virus, có vai trò hoạt hóa các tế bào miễn dịch tấn công và tiêu diệt chúng. Nghiên cứu trước đã chỉ ra alen T của rs2596542 tại vùng 5’-UTR gen MICA làm tăng nguy cơ mắc ung thư vòm họng. Tuy nhiên EBV được biết đến là một tác nhân liên quan tới ung thư vòm họng lại chưa được làm rõ mối liên quan với đa hình đơn rs2596542. Do đó, nghiên cứu được thực hiện với mục đích đánh giá mối liên quan của rs2596542 với sự có mặt của EBV trên 100 mẫu mô ung thư vòm họng thể không biệt hóa bằng kĩ thuật Realtime-PCR. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy lượng EBV tăng đáng kể ở bệnh nhân có kiểu gen TT (p = 0,001) và alen T (p = 0,005), qua đó góp phần làm rõ cơ chế tác động của EBV đối với ung thư vòm họng. Kết quả gợi ý rs2596542 cùng với EBV là dấu ấn sinh học trong chẩn đoán và sàng lọc ung thư vòm họng thể không biệt hóa nhạy cảm với virus.
