38. Physical activity and related factors among junior high school students in Ho Chi Minh City in 2022

Abstract

Physical inactivity, a public health issue, requires attention as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). A cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of physical activity of junior high school students and related factors; 318 students at 2 junior high schools in Ho Chi Minh City participated in this study in 2022. Research results show that 67.6% of students are physically active as recommended by WHO; related factors include male (PR = 1.22, 95%CI: 1.04 - 1.43); self-study time < 2 hours/day (PR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.20 - 1.86; PR = 1.25, 95%CI: 1.06 - 1.47); not a member of a team, or playing any sport (PR = 0.55, 95%CI: 0.48 - 0.64); receive no encouragement, participation, supervision/monitoring of parents (PR = 0.53, 95%CI: 0.42 - 0.66; PR = 0.63, 95%CI: 0.55 - 0.73 and PR = 0.62, 95%CI: 0.55 - 0.71 no participation with siblings (PR = 0.75, 95%CI: 0.62 - 0.90); or friends (PR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.51 - 0.82).
