21. Factors associated with febrile seizures in children at Can Tho Children’s Hospital in 2024-2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
Febrile seizures are the most common neurological disorder in children from 6 months to 5 years old, including two types: simple and complex. A cross-sectional descriptive study analyzed 104 children with febrile seizures at the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Dengue Fever, Can Tho Children's Hospital from June 2024 to June 2025. The results showed that the average age was 26.52 ± 14.27 months old; males accounted for 54.8%; simple febrile seizures accounted for 51%, complex seizures accounted for 49%. Multivariate regression analysis showed that temperature at the time of seizure and birth weight were indeed factors related to febrile seizures in children with ORs of 4.056 (95% CI: 1.338 - 14.548; p = 0.019), OR=8.678 (95% CI: 1.700 - 73.829; p = 0.019), respectively. Children with simple febrile seizures typically exhibit a temperature of ≥ 400C at seizure onset and occur primarily in children with normal birth weight; whereas complex febrile seizures are generally associated with a temperature of < 400C at seizure onset and are more common in low birth weight infants. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on these characteristics for an early and accurate diagnosis and to select appropriate treatment.
