40. Effectiveness of estradiol and progesterone therapy on hot flashes in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women: A before-after study
Main Article Content
Abstract
Hot flashes are common and distressing symptoms in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, yet data on short-term hormone therapy effectiveness in Vietnam remain limited. This prospective study evaluated 85 women treated with 0.05 mg/day transdermal 17β-estradiol and 100 mg/day oral micronized progesterone for one month at Hung Vuong Hospital. Hot flash severity, measured using the Menopause Rating Scale, significantly declined post-treatment (p < 0.001). Perimenopausal women experienced greater improvement than postmenopausal counterparts (mean score reduction: 2.29 vs. 1.83). Multivariable analysis identified postmenopausal status as a negative predictor (β = -0.51; p = 0.007), while residing in Ho Chi Minh City (β = 0.38; p = 0.010) and prior hysterectomy or oophorectomy (β = 0.64; p = 0.047) were associated with better outcomes. These findings support the short-term efficacy of combined hormone therapy and highlight the importance of considering menopausal stage and demographic factors in tailoring treatment strategies for Vietnamese women.
