13. Investigating the testicular histopathology of azoospermic infertile men at Hanoi Medical University Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
The testicular histopathological characteristic of azoospermic men has a significant value in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of infertile couples. However, there are limited data on the histopathology of the testes on the Oline Public Access Catalouge of Vietnam (OPAC). Therefore, we conducted a study on pathology specimens of 79 azoospermic infertile men at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The results showed that the most common histopathological pattern was Sertoli cell only syndrome (35.44%), followed by hypospermatogenesis (29.11%) and Germ cell maturation arrest (21.51%). There were significant differences in the mean testicular volume, serum LH and FSH concentration between patients with normal testicular histology and other groups of histopathology. On logistic regression model, only FSH was associated with the severity of histopathological pattern. With each 1 unit increase in the level of FSH, there was a 7.5% increase in the probability of a more severe histopathology (p = 0.016).
